The Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing is hosting a professional learning webinar focusing on understanding and responding to the high risk and harm of Non-Fatal Strangulation  for the domestic and family violence sector

About the webinar

Non-Fatal Strangulation (NFS) is when a person has survived having pressure over their neck by any means. NFS is a high harm and high-risk form of domestic and family violence. This needs to be factored into their risk assessment, safety plan and when exiting services.

This webinar will provide evidence-based knowledge on NFS with the aim to:

Strengthen participants’ understanding of the dangers and risks of NFS

Assist participants to recognise the signs and symptoms associated with NFS

Build participants confidence to appropriately screen for NFS through sensitive and informed questions, and accurate documentation of NFS

Who should attend?

All domestic and family violence specialists working with victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

About the presenters

Darcee Schulze  |  Practice Development Specialist (Domestic and Family Violence), CWSW

Darcee is the Practice Development Specialist (Domestic and Family Violence) at the Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing and in her role, she supports the DFV sector to enhance service responses to improve outcomes for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Darcee’s previous work in research gave her the opportunity to listen to victim-survivors of domestic and family violence speak about their experiences of abuse, its impact and their engagement with services. She has also listened to practitioners share their experiences of responding to victim-survivors, including the challenges and limitations. Darcee is experienced in facilitating workshops and has delivered training to Curtin staff as part of their White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation and taught in various units across the social work course, including the unit Violence Abuse and Trauma.
