NINA FUNNELL BIO:
Nina Funnell is a multi-Walkley award winning investigative journalist, author, and sexual assault survivor advocate who was responsible for spearheading the #LetHerSpeak campaign to reform sexual assault victim gag-laws across Australia. The foundational case study of the campaign – Grace Tame – went on to become Australian of the Year 2021 for her bravery in fronting the media component of the campaign.
In 2023, Nina created and led the #JusticeShouldntHurt campaign, to expand the Child Sexual Offence Evidence program across the state of NSW. In direct response, three months later the NSW Premier committed an extra $64.3 million funding to expand the CSOE program to all NSW district courts, to help reduce court trauma for CSA survivors.
Nina is the recipient of a United Nations Media Australia award, an Australian Human Rights Commission Community (Individual) Award, two Kennedy awards, and four Walkley awards for her ground breaking reporting on sexual violence. She has been named overall Woman of the Year (2021) and Journalist of the Year (2019, 2021, and 2023) at the B&T Women in Media Awards. She is a proud ambassador for Full Stop Australia and a current director of End Rape On Campus Australia, and Rape & Sexual Assault Research & Advocacy.
