Expressions of Interest for Lived Experience Representatives

The Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing is seeking expressions of interest for Lived Experience Representatives for the Sexual Violence Expert Advisory Group. 

The Sexual Violence Expert Advisory Group (SVEAG) brings together individuals and organisations who have expertise in sexual violence and sexual assault in all its forms. The SVEAG will be focused on current and emerging issues and opportunities related to sexual violence in Western Australia. The SVEAG’s membership is designed to join and harness a range of skills, knowledge, and expertise to support improved responses to and prevention of sexual violence in Western Australia. The membership will draw on the professional experience of subject matter experts, agencies and organisations supporting victim-survivors, perpetrators and families who are impacted by sexual violence, and the lived experience expertise of individuals. 

CWSW is seeking expressions of interest for Lived Experience Representatives for the SVEAG to contribute to policy development, information sharing and improved practice. 

The role:

Lived Experience Representatives will be remunerated for their time. Please note this group is only open to applicants residing in Western Australia and those living in the regions are strongly encouraged to apply.

The term of appointment is for 12 months at which point membership of the SVEAG will be reviewed. The SVEAG will meet bimonthly for up to 1.5-2-hour meetings, most meetings will be held online unless advised.  The overall time commitment is expected to be around 2 hours per month. Lived experience representatives will be renumerated for their time commitment to meetings and any preparatory work at $65 per hour.

The questions below are designed to support victim-survivors to reflect and make decisions about whether to apply to be a member of the Sexual Violence Expert Advisory Group.

Readiness to undertake the work

  • What are my reasons for wanting to become a member of this group?
  • Do I really want to become involved or am I feeling that I should?

Resources needed

  • Do I have enough resources in place both personally and professionally to prevent my health and wellbeing being negatively impacted?
  • What support might I need if my health and wellbeing is negatively impacted?
  • What strategies will I use if someone reacts negatively or judgmentally?

Safety considerations

  • Is it safe for me to become involved?
  • Are there any ongoing risks posed by the person/s who abused me?
  • Are there protections that can be put in place to increase my safety?

Boundaries

  • How will I ensure my personal and professional boundaries are upheld?
  • What are my personal limits regarding what I am happy to contribute to?

Legal considerations

  • Am I involved in any ongoing legal proceedings that may be jeopardised?
  • Are there any potential legal consequences for me becoming a Lived Experience representative on this group?

Other considerations

  • Are there people in my life who need to be aware of my decision to be on this group?
  • Am I clear about how I would make complaints or provide feedback?
